Mixed Martial Arts Circuit Training

Circuit training is very important for fighters. Virtually all of the top mixed martial artists use it to train in some form or another.

Circuit training works great for wrestlers, boxers and for basically any fighting style you can think of. So it obviously is a great tool for mixed martial artists to train with as well.

The easiest way to get started with circuits is to figure out what you are training for. The most common length for mixed martial arts fights is three five-minute rounds. This is the standard fight time-limit that the UFC uses, so I will use that for our example.

Since you know you need to fight for a full five minutes at a time without getting tired, then you can train your body specifically for that.

Many fighters use a combination of body weight training exercises and other MMA specific training drills to make up their circuits. This is one of the best methods for you to use as well.

Start out by performing some basic exercises like sit-up, push-ups, jump squats, lunges, squats, leg lifts, etc. Then mix in periods of shadow boxing, sprawling and throwing knees. Perform these exercises in one continuous circuit for the entire an five minute round.

After you train this way for awhile, you'll be able to add in more advanced training exercises and drills. There are many tutorials on this website that will help you with this.

After each circuit, you'll want to rest for about a minute, although at first you might need to rest for three minutes or so.

After resting, perform this same circuit again, or a completely new circuit. Perform as many of these cycles as necessary to imitate the length of a fight.

Remember, the important thing is to make these workouts specific to your training goals.

This has been just a basic education in circuit training, but there is a lot more to learn. For more, check out some of these tutorials here: - MMA Training Tips and MMA Training Routines
